BRINGING BACK LIFE AND SOUL TO DOWNTOWN NYC
During 2020, thousands of New Yorkers left to live in cities and suburbs that were more conducive to a “normal life.”
We also witnessed the closing down of so many stores and businesses. For many of us, the City felt like it was deserted and
the Jewish community and the synagogues also lost many members.
THE SAMMY FARKAS DOWNTOWN TORAH
However, the pandemic is now fading away and "real life" is returning to NYC. It is therefore an auspicious time to fill the void, and create new Jewish life
and activity that is sourced in “the Tree of Life; the Torah.” That means a stronger connection for all Jewish people, a revival of community activities,
and bringing people together on “Shabbat.” Therefore the Chabad Loft and the Farkas family are dedicating a new Torah with the purpose of re-invigorating
life and soul back into the downtown Jewish community.
The main sponsor will be the Sammy Farkas Foundation who is donating the Torah in honor of Sammy, whose life
was tragically cut way too short. Everyone who knew him, felt his unconditional “Ahavas Yisroel.” This Torah will be a permanent tribute to that Love
and bring a new vibrancy to Jewish Life Downtown.
THE 613th MITZVAH
Everyone can also participate in the writing of this Torah, and thereby fulfill the 613th Mitzvah in the Torah to assist in the writing of the Sefer Torah.
We will have an uplifting Torah dedication ceremony on Oct 10th and celebrate together in honor of Sammy and the revival of Jewish Life in the Downtown Community.
