The Downtown Torah

Torah Dedication Ceremony and Celebration

INVIGORATING JOY AND JUDAISM DOWNTOWN

The Chabad Loft has begun this new Torah campaign as way to invigorate a greater sense of Community, Joy, and Dynamic Judaism in Downtown Manhattan. The 613th and final Mitzvah of Judaism is to write your own Torah Scroll or to participate in the dedication of Torah. It’s considered to be a tremendous honor and one of the most important of the 613 commandments.

SAMMY FARKAS

The principal benefactor is the Farkas Family who are generously donating the Torah in honor of their Beloved Sammy (Yitzchak ben Moshe Dovid) whose life was tragically cut short at the young age of 15. Sammy was a beautiful soul who exemplified the foundations of Judaism, particularly in his Joyous demeanor and "Ahavas Yisroel.'

DEDICATION OPPURTUNITIES FOR EVERYONE

Everyone can also be included in this tremendous mitzvah and enscribed in this Torah  by either dedicating one of the 5 books, one of the 53 Parshas or even one single letter.

The names of the 5 benefactors that donated an entire book or one of 53 donors of a  Parsha will be included on our Downtown Torah Plaque placed in the Kavanah Space.

SUNDAY APRIL 10TH, THE DAY OF THE DEDICATION AND CELEBRATION

On Sunday, April 3rd we will host the Torah dedication ceremony and celebration. All participants will have the honor of helping the Scribe complete the last few lines. This will be followed by a Grand Buffet dinner, dancing with the Torah and joy likened to the holiday of  SIMCHAT TORAH.
